Dogs That Watch Telivision

There were times when we watched telivision, especially when we played dog movies where there are dog sounds like barking, that one of our dog starts to watch the movie with us. From what I know, dogs see things differently than humans do. So Im always been curious as to what our dog actually see while she watch telivision with us when we play dog movies on screen. I am sure its not just the dog barking sound that drives her attention to the monitor because her eyes are definitely focus on the screen as well, which means that he can actually see things, perhaps figures and characters shown in the screen, I can only guess :-)

The Muddy Paws

For areas like California, rainy days are blessing from above. Rainy days in this side of US are usually limited, so when the rain comes, it is mostly benefecial because it adds more water to the ground and let the ecosystem going.

But for dog owners with dirt section in their yard, it can be a huge mess to let the dogs out in the muddy yard during the rainy days and let them back inside the house bringing with them a muddy suprise all over the floor.

We had green lawn in the backyard but it was overpowered by all kinds of weeds, so we recently prepared the yard for new lawn, but its been raining for days! Having dogs outside for their playtime and duty calls becoming a real mess because they track mud inside house. Tile flooring might be easier to clean, but we have wood flooring, and wood and water are not the best of buddies , nor is carpet and mud.







A dump towel rug place near the door can be handy item to wipe a dogs paws before they start walking around the house tracking mud. It is a temporary solution that we only do during the rainy days, but it helps a lot in minimizing the muddy footprints inside the house. We also spread a fabric sheet in the floor near the door to help soak some of the wet paws. We have a rug in our door that says Wipe Your Paws, wouldn't it be nice if they can really do that?!

Listening To Your Dog

Dogs communicate in different level compare to humans. Dogs cannot talk, humans do. But its a fact that many people have dogs as pets and consider them as family or as a friend. To maintain a healthy relationship with each other, everyone involve in a relationship should be able to understand and communicate with each other.

Inorder to fully develop a great relationship with each other, both human owner and its dog must learn to communicate and interact with each other in a manner that they both get the message! With proper training, dogs can understand hand signals and spoken commands and that will help tremendously with being in control over your dog and let your dog know what you want or need him/her to do. By training ones dog to understand both signals and commands, the dog is more likely to listen and understand what his/her human is trying to tell him/her.

On the other hand, it is a greater challenge for humans to fully understand what their dogs are telling them. Dogs cannot talk, but if you observed very closely, you will likely notice that dogs have their own ways of trying to communicate to humans. One of our dog make several different noises, and display certain behaviour everytime she wants a particular thing. For example, when our dog wants to pee in the middle of the night, she stare at us and create a one single whoop whisper. She repeat the same gentle whoop sound one after the other, but when she can no longer hold her blater, she just make a one big resounding whoop as a warning to let us know that its really a go-go time or she will accidentally make a flood inside (and its not her fault anymore, atleast she tried to tell us!), and then she started running back and forth from bed to the doorway.

The trick is being able to read your dogs unique language and behaviour. The more you spend time and observe your dog, the more you learn how she/he behave a certain way to let you know what she/he need at that time. And it is always a good thing to take the time to learn and understand your dog, this way she/he will be more encourange to communicate to you and give you a clue, the way she/he knows how!

Fireworks And Noises This New Years Day

During the New Year (or Fourth of July), many of us are accustomed to the lighting and firing of fireworks. Ancient traditions and beliefs started the firing of fireworks at the strike of midnight on New Years Eve, at the start of new year day inorder to make loud noises and drive away the evil spirits away inorder to start the new year with great intentions and great environment for us and our love ones. Or fireworks are lit during July 4th as a celebration of Independence Day. But as we light and fire our fireworks to perform our yearly traditions, always remember that most dogs dont understand the meaning behind all these. The big bangs and loud noises from the fireworks usually scare them off, bothers them, and may cause them to act uneasy and uncomfortable. Inorder to keep your dogs and cats safer this new year eve (fourth of july) fireworks, try to keep them indoors possibly in a room where they can relax, lay down in their bed with the telivision or the radio on, that way they will not be so bothered by the weird noises from fireworks that are happening outside.

Ice And Snow

It never occured to me in the past that there are dogs that actually eat ice and snow. I realized that one when I was getting some chunk of ice cubes from the refrigerator (in an ice dispenser) and I accidentally dropped one in the floor. One of our dogs hurried to the scene and grabbed the ice cube from the floor and started crushing it with her teeth and eating it.

One day, it was snowing outside and we had few feet of snow in the ground. Our dogs love to play in the snow, so we give them some snow playtime when its no longer storming outside but is cold enough that the snow remains in the ground. During one of their snow play, I was taking photos of our dog running all over the place, and all of a sudden, she started eating the snow and I got the photo to prove it :-) Look at her..
