This is me, Katie, playing my red ball one afternoon, enjoying the beautiful sunny day outside. It was a perfect timing because my human just trimmed the grass in our lawn, so it is totally perfect for playing that day. Although, I am sometimes distracted by all the movements and noises outside since we have cats, dogs, birds, and cars in the neighborhood, and wait I feel like there are some insects crawling underneath our grass lawn, got to get them bugs! Awesome Videos Of Dogs In Cars

 



Do you travel with your dog? If you haven't done that before with your dog, moving cars is quite possibly a new environment for your dog, and it will require some adjustment on both you and your dog to get started with it, you having a valuable passenger in the backseat that is unfamiliar with the new territory (that is moving), and your dog being there trying to figure out what is going on. Some dogs may never get used to the idea of car rides but for most dogs, once they become more acquainted and familiar with the fast movement of a moving car and get used to traveling with their owners by doing it more than one time already, most dogs started to relax and get a sense of familiarity, remembering that they have done it before, and started to enjoy the ride a little more instead of possibly throwing up, feeling tense and anxious. Some dogs cannot wait to be in the backseat and go for car rides, and if you ever wonder why... and if they can ever speak human language, they probably answer you a big resounding: because its fun! its called living man :-)

Harmful And Toxic Plants To Dogs



As we live our normal lives and enjoying the beautiful weather outside, attending to our beautiful gardens and plants in the backyard to keep them healthy and blooming, we unknowingly grow plants that unfortunately may be harmful and toxic to our furry friends. We hardly think about these things because we grow up with plants in our yard, and we planted them to beautify our surrounding, and we are totally unaware and hardly think that some of these fruits, fruits, and leaves are toxic to animals especially to our dogs. When we have dogs and/or cats, we do need to be mindful which plants are toxic and harmful to them to avoid a n emergency trip to the veterinary to find out what is wrong with our pet when all of a sudden she/he shows some signs of vomiting, abnormalities in his/her health.

One known toxic flower plants to dogs is the Oleander, also called a Rose Bay. Oleander is among the most known harmful flowering landscaping plant to your dog. As beautiful as it is, just one leaf of this plant can be very poisonous to your dog and can be fatal and deadly if not attended to right away.

Other popular plant that we may grow in our yard for easy access as medicinal plant when we have cuts and bruises is an Aloe Vera. Although Aloe Vera is very beneficial to humans in so many ways, it is quite toxic and can be a poison to your dog if she/he ever got curious to this plant and accidentally swallow and digest the latex part of the Aloe Vera which is under the green skin of the leaf. So if you have to grow Aloe Vera, try to put them in a higher spot in a pot where your dog will not have an access to it.

Grape fruits are also known to be toxic to our furry dog best friend, so be mindful if you are growing this delicious fruit and its gravevine or vine plant in your backyard to make sure that your dog will stay away from it and not eat any of the fruits. Some dogs get curious and take a bite of the grape fruit, and if digested, this can be toxic to them.

I found this video that talked about Oleander and other plants that are or may be toxic to animals especially dogs, so its definitely worth watching because they are quite common in many household and many pet owners are unaware that some of these plants are actually dangerous and poisonous to our dogs:





We dont always follow every single minute what our dogs are doing while they are out in our backyard relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather. Dogs are known to be very curious and particularly love to check out something foreign things that normally they dont know about. You just have to be watchful and mindful whenever your dog started to act differently, show signs of vomiting and upset stomach, and if she/he is showing any of these signs after prolong stay outside, chances are he/she got interested in plants and trees and eventually shallowed leaves or fruits or flowers that might be harmful to your dog. When you are not sure what is happening to your dog, or what she/he ate while outdoors, it is best to consult your veterinarian to make sure than she/he will be treated properly right away, and with all the symptoms and signs that you observe it is best to bring him/her to the vet soon enough before any symptoms get any worse, its always best to think safety first, better safe than sorry.

The Muddy Paws

For areas like California, rainy days are blessing from above. Rainy days in this side of US are usually limited, so when the rain comes, it is mostly benefecial because it adds more water to the ground and let the ecosystem going.

But for dog owners with dirt section in their yard, it can be a huge mess to let the dogs out in the muddy yard during the rainy days and let them back inside the house bringing with them a muddy suprise all over the floor.

We had green lawn in the backyard but it was overpowered by all kinds of weeds, so we recently prepared the yard for new lawn, but its been raining for days! Having dogs outside for their playtime and duty calls becoming a real mess because they track mud inside house. Tile flooring might be easier to clean, but we have wood flooring, and wood and water are not the best of buddies , nor is carpet and mud.







A dump towel rug place near the door can be handy item to wipe a dogs paws before they start walking around the house tracking mud. It is a temporary solution that we only do during the rainy days, but it helps a lot in minimizing the muddy footprints inside the house. We also spread a fabric sheet in the floor near the door to help soak some of the wet paws. We have a rug in our door that says Wipe Your Paws, wouldn't it be nice if they can really do that?!

Ice And Snow

It never occured to me in the past that there are dogs that actually eat ice and snow. I realized that one when I was getting some chunk of ice cubes from the refrigerator (in an ice dispenser) and I accidentally dropped one in the floor. One of our dogs hurried to the scene and grabbed the ice cube from the floor and started crushing it with her teeth and eating it.

One day, it was snowing outside and we had few feet of snow in the ground. Our dogs love to play in the snow, so we give them some snow playtime when its no longer storming outside but is cold enough that the snow remains in the ground. During one of their snow play, I was taking photos of our dog running all over the place, and all of a sudden, she started eating the snow and I got the photo to prove it :-) Look at her..

Muddy Nose Doggy

Yesterday, I had the shock of the day when I peeked at our sliding door, and staring back at me was one of our doggy with her nose full of mud!

Few minutes before her muddy nose, I saw her outside digging and burying one of her biscuits treat in the garden, which we just watered. I called her attention right away and stopped her from digging. And then few minutes after that, i found her just outside the sliding door, looking at me, with her muddy nose.



I thought it was hilarious and cute, reminded me of Rudolph The Red-Nose Reideer...I grabbed my camera really quicked and managed to steal some shots of her muddy nose. Here it is!

Dogs Eating Grass

We noticed that our dogs eat grass leaves everytime they have an upset stomach. Although, basing on our observations, a lot of times, eating grass only worsen the situation of their stomach pain and suffering because the grass they eat literally cause our dogs to get choke and vomit or throw up due to the unchewed long grass, probably just as worst and bothering as a hair ball that cats have to go through every now and then when they lick they hair clean. So every time we notice our dogs suffering from stomach pain, we try to minimize their outdoor stay to keep them away from eating the grass. It is unknown to us if there are any specific grass that they eat, or they just eat any type of grass they could find in the yard. If you notice the same behaviour with your dog, eating grass and vomiting it afterwards, for safety of your dogs, if she/he is not recovering soon enough from the stomach pain, it is always best to consult your veterenarian about it, inorder to get the proper medications for it.

Dogs In The Cars During Summertime

Most of us love to travel with our dogs, but here comes summertime and in many parts of the nation like California, weather temperatures here easily gets intensely hot and uncomfortable for both humans and dogs to be outdoors for so long. Many of us, when we travel with our dogs on a hot summer or spring day, we usually either have an aircon on or have the windows open while the car is on the move to allow fresh air to flow through easily the vehicle. But when we leave our dogs in a building parking lot inorder to go shopping or to dine in a restaurant, a lot of times these type of establishments all over the country do not allow dogs in their premises, so we ended up having to leave our dogs inside the car while we eat in a restaurant or enjoy shopping in an air conditioned room. So if you plan to leave your dog in the car because you have stuff to do while your dog waits in the car, then try to park your car in a shaded area with windows crack open so that the dog can have a breeze and the car wont get oven-hot while your dog is waiting for you. There are definitely instances that it is best for someones dog to just stay in the house than be left behind alone in a parking lot inside a car while the hot summer afternoon sun directly cooking the car and making the car feeling like an oven.

During your travels and trips with your dogs, it is definitely ideal to always bring along fresh water and a water bowl handy for your dogs specially during hot days so that your dog can have a drink when needed to regain some fluid back into his/her system specially that summer heat can easily make people and pets dehydrated and thirsty.

Dogs During Winter Season

I noticed that both our two dogs, when we have the wood burning stove going for the winter, they usually tried to get as closed to the wood burning stove to get some heat. And during summer times, when the room temperature is so hot for comfort, our dogs hardly use their warm and toasty plushy dog beds, instead they lay down in the cold hardwood floor. Same goes when our dogs are outside during the hot summer days, they usually try to lay down on a cooler place like the dirt or lawn area, instead of the cement or black top, where they could really get very hot.

Basing on these observations, dogs are largely affected by the temperature too. Although, there are some people who think that dogs have natural fur coating in their bodies that is why they dont really need to wear any warming jacket during snowy day when going outside in the cold. And some also think that dogs have natural furs, they can survive the freezing temperature outside. But I personally think that dogs, just like humans, gets cold and hot too! They are also largely bothered and affected by the temperatures, and they feel cold and feel hot at times. They may have fur, but the fur can only protect so much during winter and snowy times. So whenever possible, during snowy days, dont let your dog stay outside very long specially without any coat or warming jacket. And if your dog need to stay outside, in her/his dog house, where the house heater wont cover her/his dog house, consider putting them inside in the house, afterall, she/he is part of the family, and she/he doesnt really deserve to be outside all night in a freezing temperature alone. But if she/he needs to be outside during those winter times, make sure that you provide your dog proper warming gears, bed, and warm blankets to keep her/him comfortably warm.
